Word2Talk in Claude

What it does

The Word2Talk connector is an MCP server at https://word2talk.com/mcp. Once connected, Claude can:

• Preview a page to check Word2Talk can read it (preview_url) — free.
• Quote the exact cost of a conversion in listening hours (get_quote) — free, and always comes first.
• Convert an article URL or pasted text into audio in your library (convert_url, convert_text), in the original language or translated.
• Check a running conversion (job_status), your balance (get_balance), and your library (list_library) — all free.

Every conversion ends with a listen link that opens in the Word2Talk web player, on any device you're signed in on.

How billing works

Conversions are billed in listening hours from the credit packs you buy at word2talk.com/pricing; new accounts start with free minutes to try it. Two rules are enforced by the server, not just promised:

• No conversion without a quote. The convert tools refuse to run unless Claude first fetched a quote for that exact article, mode, and language — so you always see the price before anything is charged.
• No silent partial spends. If your balance can't cover the quoted cost, nothing is charged unless you explicitly accept a partial conversion of what your balance affords.

Checking balances, previews, quotes, your library, and job status never costs anything.

Connect from claude.ai

1. Open Claude → Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
2. Enter https://word2talk.com/mcp.
3. Claude redirects you to Word2Talk to sign in with your email code and approve access. That's it — no keys to copy.

Connect from Claude Code

1. In your dashboard, open Settings → Connected apps → + New token and create a personal token. It is shown once — copy it.
2. Run:
   claude mcp add --transport http word2talk https://word2talk.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer w2t_..."

Disconnecting and revoking

Everything that can reach your account is listed in Settings → Connected apps on your dashboard. Revoking an app or token cuts it off immediately; reconnecting later mints a fresh credential. Removing the connector inside Claude also stops its access on Claude's side.

Privacy

The connector sees only what you ask Claude to send it: the URLs or text you convert, and your Word2Talk account data (balance, library). Our privacy policy and terms apply as everywhere else on Word2Talk; conversation content stays with Claude.
